The soft elegant designs will compliment either a traditional or contemporary bedroom style. However, the base of the frame you choose can affect how your mattress will feel so it is important to understand which type of base will be most suited to you.

Types of base

Metal Mesh. This is generally the economy option and is mostly used on children’s bed frames. It is simply an interwoven metal wire mesh that is laid across the bed frame and is very firm.

Slatted Base. The traditional slatted base, usually manufactured with solid pine slats that are laid across the bed frame. On larger bed frames there maybe a central spine that runs the length of the bed with two sets of shorter slats in each half of the bed. They will make the overall feel of your mattress firmer because they are short lengths of solid wood and not responsive to weight pressure changes as sprung slats.

Sprung Slatted Base. A sprung slatted base is typically made from Beech and is slightly bowed, which allows the slats to respond to weight and pressure changes.
The sprung slats are laid across the steel bed frame and make the overall feel of the mattress softer due to their springiness. Sprung slats provide excellent support to all mattress types prolonging the life of your mattress, because the 'give' in the slats relieves some of the pressure from the mattress.
