Choosing Your Perfect Duvet

Choosing the best duvet for you can be a confusing experience. To find the perfect duvet for you, you will need to consider what type of filling will suit you best? A natural duvet or a Synthetic duvet? What size of duvet you will need to fit your bed? How warm you want to be? How often will you wash your duvet? and of course, Allergens. We have one of the widest selections of duvets on line.

In order to decide which duvet will suit you best, you need to consider these five key areas -:

Weight  As a general rule, the lighter a duvet is, the more durable and more expensive it will be. This is true for both natural fillings and synthetic fillings. This is because the least expensive fillings tend to be heavier. For example, feathers are heavier than more expensive down. Lower grade polyester fillings are heavier than the finer fibres used in luxurious synthetic duvets. So if you prefer a heavy weight duvet, you've cracked it!

Tog is a measure of warmth, the higher the tog rating the warmer the duvet, regardless of the filling type. Tog is not an indication of weight.

A 13.5 tog duvet is wonderfully warm, so ideal for those cold winter months or for those who sleep alone.

A 10.5 tog duvet provides medium warmth, so is ideal for spring and autumn months or for those who share a bed.

A 4.5 tog duvet is cooler and best used as a summer quilt.

Allergies. Allergies are widespread and affect approximately 1 in 4 of the population in the UK, at some point of their lives. Half of all those affected are children. One of the main causes of allergies including asthma, Eczema, and Rhinitis, is the household dust mite.

If you are allergic to feathers, choose a synthetic duvet.

If you are allergic to dust mites, choose a duvet that can be washed easily at 60 degrees, the temperature that kills dust mites.

Washability and Care Consideration should be given to how often you will wash your duvet. If the user suffers from dust mite allergens or bed wetting, then more frequent washing may be required. Our range of synthetic duvets are produced from the highest quality fillings and fabrics, to ensure a wash performance second to none. Poor quality duvets will not wash well and will quickly become lumpy. Always read the care label.

Extreme care is needed with natural duvets when washing. It is essential that natural duvets are thoroughly dried. Even though a natural duvet may feel dry to touch, moisture remains within, which will cause rotting of the filling. Specialist cleaning is highly recommended for natural duvets. Always read the care label.

Breathability  The build up of body heat and humidity from perspiration generally associated with synthetic duvets, can result in a broken nights sleep. A beathable duvet will reduce the build up of excessive body heat and perspiration, as moisture can be dispersed away from the body. This ensures a restful nights sleep.

The breathability of a duvet is dependent upon the cover fabric and the filling that the duvet is made from. As a rule, the more natural fibre used, the more breathable and more comfortable the duvet will be.
